Max Verstappen has the chance to equal Sebastian Vettel’s streak of nine consecutive race wins.
“Qualifying is always stressful no matter what the conditions, but definitely now it’s definitely trickier,” the McLaren driver said during his on-track interview. “Like the first half of the lap was mega, but the second half of the lap was pretty one of the worst second halves that I’ve done. So it peaked very early on, but it’s tough. But I really enjoy these conditions.”Mixed conditions plagued Saturday as a very narrow dry line emerged.
The Williams driver said to formula1.com on Friday, “Very good. But we’ve seen it before. We obviously don’t know what everyone else is doing. Honestly, I have to say the car felt good.” Then came Saturday. Albon went the fastest during Q1, secured the third-fastest time in Q2 and was just 0.852 seconds off of Verstappen’s pole position time . Albon matched his best qualifying result, and Saturday marked the first time since 2017 that both Williams cars made it into Q3. And not to mention that Sargeant’s appearance is the first time an American driver competed in Q3 since 1993.
