Cameron Thomas, who owns the Central Perk cafe in Kiama, revealed how his ‘cop mentality’ kicked in when the NSW and Kangaroos representative suffered a stroke.

The man praised for helping save the life of Steve ‘Slippery’ Morris said the former NSW and Kangaroos representative was “lucky he was in the right place at the right time”.

Morris, 66, was not even aware his face had dropped and he had been paralysed down the left side of his body. He later underwent emergency brain surgery. Morris’ partner Stacey made special mention of Thomas last week on social media and said his quick response had “saved his [Steve’s] life”. “I noticed it was Steve and then the old cop mentality kicked in. I quickly realised he had paralysis. The whole left side of his body had shut down and his face had dropped – he had no feeling down the whole side of his body.“He was conscious and breathing. The strange thing was he wasn’t aware of what was going on. He said, ‘I’m alright Cam, I’m going to go’.
