Veterinarian and TikTok creator Amir Anwary outlines three easy actions owners can take-proper diet, regular moderate exercise, and targeted supplements-to help dogs maintain a healthy weight, boost immunity and potentially add years to their lives.
A vet has shared three simple dog longevity tips that owners can follow at home to help their pets live longer. The dog health advice covers diet, regular exercise and supplements that may support your pet's overall wellbeingPet owners can potentially extend their furry companions' lives by following three straightforward steps at home, according to veterinary advice.
Amir Anwary, a vet and social media content creator, dispensed the guidance on his widely-followed TikTok account @Amirthevet. With a substantial following of one million, he routinely shares helpful hints for those caring for animals. In a recent upload, Amir directed his attention towards dog owners, writing in his caption: "As dog owners we all have the exact same question on our minds: how can we get our pets to live longer because their lives are so short?
"There are several things we can do, simple things we can do at home to help potentially extend our pets' lives. These are three of the easiest ones to implement from my side and I'll suggest you start implementing them straightaway so that your pets can in fact live longer.
"In the footage, Amir outlined: "These are three things you can do at home to get your dog to live longer. First is put them on a diet. Studies have shown that dogs that are overfed and are overweight will live on average two years less than dogs that are fed the correct amount or fed less and are of the correct weight. So make sure that you are watching your pet's weight; it is so, so, so extremely important.
" Progressing to his second recommendation, Amir emphasised the necessity of providing dogs with steady, routine physical activity. "This doesn't mean you need to take them chasing a tennis ball and running up mountains. In fact, as they get older, that kind of exercise can actually cause more harm than it does good.
"But consistent controlled moderate exercise every single day is so good for their immune system, for their bodies, and for their cognitive function. So make sure that you are regularly exercising your dogs if you want them to live longer.
", reports Rounding off his advice, Amir turned his attention to supplements, asserting: "The foods we feed our dogs today are giving them the minimum requirements that they need, yes, but they're not necessarily getting everything that they need to thrive. So you need to make up that difference.
"So what I do for my dog is I want to control inflammation, I want to improve her dental health, and I want to improve her joints because joints are extremely important in dogs, especially as they get older. So for anti-inflammatory, I will give her a high-quality Omega-3 supplement; for her teeth, I will use a dental powder; and for the joints, I will use a comprehensive joint supplement.
"The clip garnered thousands of views and likes from dog lovers. One social media user responded: "I agree 100%" while another commented: "Thanks for the info. And reminders not to overfeed.
" A devoted pet owner also weighed in, writing: "Never had an overweight pet in 30 years. My dogs in the park several times a day since birth, running every single day..even during hurricane Ian we were out there! Last dog lived almost 19 years. "
