Published: May. 2, 2024 at 12:02 PM AKDTFAIRBANKS, Alaska - Over the last year multiple new benefits have become available to military veterans in Alaska, as the Alaska Veteran Affairs team shared at a townhall on Tuesday.

“If you have been turned down before, many of the benefits we are now entitled to came out of this recent legislation, so there’s a better chance of connectivity,” emphasized Alaska VA Healthcare System Director Tom Steinbrunner. “It’s worth applying for.” As a result of the sudden increase in eligible claims, however, Veteran Affairs has fallen behind in processing claims in general.

A second problem, veterans said, has to do with the unreliability of accessing their prescription medication.
