Gareth Rogers was a teacher during the 1970s, and in his 20s, when he performed oral sex on one of the boys in his classroom.
A man who was raped in a classroom by a history teacher as a schoolboy said the abuse he suffered "broke him".
The first victim came forward and notified the police in 2018 after disclosing the abuse to his mother and his sister. The second victim came forward in 2019 after he was told Rogers had been arrested. The defendant denied five counts of indecent assault and one count of buggery, and claimed the allegations have been "made up" by the complainants. But he was found guilty of all six counts by a jury, following a trial a Newport Crown Court.
"After being 20, I decided I could not cope with the shame, I resolved to kill myself by the time I was 50. I planned to do this naturally and craved for cancer. I smoked 20 Marlboro a day as a documentary said this would lead to an early death.... I am not the person I was meant to be and I don't like the person I have become. When I got to 50 and I wasn't dead, I couldn't cope with life anymore. I was on medication every day and went to see the doctor and opened up to him.
"It's a major source of regret and I blame the attack for any inadequacies in this area, and made relationships feel sordid to me. He broke me."
