Veteran midfielder Victor Wanyama has signed with Scottish Championship club Dunfermline Athletic until the end of the season, reuniting with former manager Neil Lennon. The Kenyan international will aim to help Dunfermline avoid relegation in a bid to keep their place in the Scottish second tier.

Dunfermline Athletic has secured the signing of former Celtic and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama on a short-term contract until the end of the season. The 33-year-old Kenyan international reunites with his former Celtic manager, Neil Lennon , who was recently appointed manager of Dunfermline with the task of rescuing the club from relegation.

Wanyama enjoyed considerable success under Lennon at Celtic Park, winning two consecutive Scottish Premier League titles and making a memorable goal against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League. This impressive run earned him a then-record transfer fee move to Southampton for around £12.5 million, followed by a four-year stint at Tottenham Hotspur. After leaving Montreal CF in January, Wanyama returns to Scottish football for the first time since 2012. Subject to international clearance, Wanyama is poised to make his debut for Dunfermline against Ayr United on Saturday, managed by his former Celtic captain, Scott Brown. Dunfermline currently sit second-bottom in the Scottish Championship table, six points clear of the automatic relegation zone but trailing Hamilton Accies by two points. They are battling to climb out of the relegation playoff spot with seven games remaining. Lennon expressed his eagerness to take on the Dunfermline challenge following extensive discussions with the club's owner and chairman. The former Celtic and Hibernian manager, who last managed in Romania with Rapid Bucuresti, has been appointed until the end of the season. This marks his third stint as Dunfermline's permanent manager this season, following the sacking of James McPake in December and the dismissal of Michael Tidser earlier this month after just 60 days in charge. Recognizing the significant challenge of maintaining Dunfermline's status in the Scottish second tier, Lennon emphasized it was an opportunity he could not refuse. 'Last week, we had a lot of conversations between myself, the chairman and the owner. They made a very compelling argument for taking the job,' he said. 'There's an old adage from Sir Alex where sometimes you pick the owners rather than pick the club. 'So I think we've got a good one here. Further down the line, he's got really good aspirations for the future of the club. 'I wanted to align myself with that. 'We have a lot of work to do, which is not going to happen instantly, but I've had a good response from the players over the last two days. I'm delighted with their attitude and application. 'It's great to be back involved in football. I know how competitive and attritional the Championship can be. 'I know we're not in the best of form at the minute, so that is a challenge for myself to turn the psychology of the club and dressing room around.
