The incident is reported to have happened in a Victoria Centre lift

Nottinghamshire Police are investigating reports of an alleged hate crime incident in a Victoria Centre lift which saw a woman with cerebral palsy allegedly being abused. The 72-year-old woman had asked if she could use the lift alone because she feared catching coronavirus, but Nottinghamshire Police say this caused a man to become aggressive and to allegedly make a derogatory comment about her disability.

The force has now issued an image of a man that it would like to speak to in connection with the hate crime investigation. The incident took place on July 28. Inspector Paul Gummer, who leads the City Centre Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "This was an appalling incident that caused great upset and distress to the victim. Despite extensive inquiries, all efforts to trace the person responsible have been met with a negative result and so we now asking for the public's help to identify him."

Those who recognise the man in the image, or who know his whereabouts, are being told to call police on 101, quoting incident number 131 of July 28. Crimestoppers can also be called anonymously on 0800 555111.
