Highly sensitive legal files from Victorian government departments and agencies, potentially including personal information, have been published on the dark web by cybercriminals., which the Russian-linked criminal gang known as BlackCat or AlphV claimed responsibility for.The state’s chief information security officer on Friday said HWL Ebsworth had now confirmed that information relating to its work with several Victorian departments and agencies had been published on the dark web.

“We are taking this matter extremely seriously, and are working in partnership with the Commonwealth government, and can confirm that there has been no direct breach of Victorian government IT systems,” the officer said in a statement. “HWL Ebsworth is in direct contact with impacted departments and agencies to provide advice on the specific information that has been exposed.“Where that information relates to members of the Victorian community, departments and agencies will make direct contact with those impacted as soon possible to provide tailored advice and support because we know data breaches can be distressing, especially when personal information is involved.

HWL Ebsworth has partnered with the national identity and cyber support community service, IDCARE, to support affected individuals at no cost.earlier this month confirmed it was one of dozens of government departments and agencies scrambling to find out how much of their data was breached in the hack attack.from the Supreme Court of NSW last month, in an attempt to prevent hackers from disclosing its stolen information.
