The 26-year-old was fined £20,000 and banned from the roads for three years
This video shows drink-driving Leicester City footballer Hamza Choudhury heading towards Nottingham city centre on the wrong side of the road in West Bridgford. In the clip, the 26-year-old midfielder can be seen behind the wheel of his wife’s Range Rover in the early hours of January 19 this year.
The police’s dashcam footage captures the £12,000-a-week star leaving Melton Road and driving on the wrong carriageway on London Road before cutting through a central reservation gap and on to the right side. The officers then illuminate their blue lights and the defendant, of Edwalton, then stops his car in the second lane outside the offices of Nottinghamshire County Council.
On Thursday, February 29,Choudhury was fined £20,000 and banned from the roads for three years after admitting drink-driving and driving without due care and attention.Choudhury, who was arrested at the scene, had provided two breath-test readings at a police station, the lowest of which was 71 mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, more than twice the limit of 35mcg, prosecutor Ben Payne told Nottingham Magistrates' Court.
Mr Payne added that Choudhury had a previous drink-driving conviction dating back to 2017, meaning the player faced a mandatory ban of at least three years. Defence lawyer Kally Sahota told the court Choudhury had shared a taxi home from a restaurant with a friend, but had returned in his wife’s car after realising he had left his phone behind.
