Lancashire village walk with woods and rivers ending at historic pub with open fires
The warm, sunny days of summer have quickly disappeared. But Lancashire remains a beautiful place to explore come rain or shine.
On offer are stretches of riverside and woodland paths within stunning rural surrounds. The route also comes with the option to explore the area's history as it starts and ends by Helmshore Mills Textile Museum. The museum consists of two historic working mills and allows visitors to learn about an industry that shaped local Lancashire lives and the industrial heritage of Britain.
The total distance is around two and a half miles and the walk should take around one hour to complete. As always, be sure to dress appropriately for the conditions. At the bend cross directly ahead, so the river is on your right hand side, follow the path up to Helmshore Road. Cross the road and proceed up the track beyond Holme Vale. Follow this track down to the houses, cross over the bridge and continue up the stony path between the two fields and down to a house beyond.
