A man was walking past the area in the city centre when he saw Abdirahman Abdi, 26, harassing a group of girls and shoving a burger into their faces.
Later that afternoon, Abdi returned to Piccadilly Gardens with seven other men, all of whom were wearing face masks. He punched the man in the face, leaving him with a cut, whilst other members of the group joined in the attack. Days later, another man was waiting for the bus in Piccadilly Gardens when Abdi beckoned over to him. He told him to sit between him as his friend, which he did, and put his bags behind him.
