More than a dozen private companies have submitted expressions of interest in taking over the VIPER mission.
This cutting-edge rover, known as the Volatiles Investigating Polar Exploration Rover, or VIPER, was supposed to launch next year.
This sudden decision shocked the scientific community and sparked outrage. They contend that VIPER is a vital mission, and its termination could set back the lunar exploration of the South Pole. In July, the Planetary Society circulated a letter to Congress urging them to “reverse the decision.” The Finding resources is a critical component of NASA’s Artemis mission, which seeks to establish a long-term human presence on the lunar surface.
In response to NASA’s call for proposals, more than a dozen companies have submitted expressions of interest in taking over the VIPER mission.
