A viral audio recording claiming the Southport killer, Axel Rudakubana, has been attacked in his cell at HMP Belmarsh has been proven false by the Ministry of Justice. Rudakubana, who was recently sentenced to over five decades for the murder of three young girls, is currently in segregation due to concerns about his safety within the general prison population.

A viral voice note claiming the Southport killer, Axel Rudakubana , has been attacked in his cell has been debunked by prison authorities. Rudakubana, who was jailed last week for the brutal murder of three young girls, is currently held in a segregation unit at HMP Belmarsh. This precautionary measure was taken due to concerns that he might be murdered by other inmates should he be integrated into the general population.

The Mirror reports that many prisoners are eager to avenge the deaths of Bebe King, Elsie Dot Stancombe, and Alice da Silva Aguiar at the hands of the 18-year-old.An audio recording circulating on social media suggests that two inmates, serving sentences for murder, have already attacked Rudakubana in his cell. The recording, initially shared on X/Twitter by an anti-immigration account, features a man claiming that the two attackers 'absolutely smashed him to pieces'. He further alleges that prison guards allowed the assailants, whom he describes as 'two lunatics', to carry out the attack. However, the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) categorically denied these claims, stating that Rudakubana had not been attacked. An MoJ spokesperson confirmed to The Mirror: 'I can confirm that reports of Axel Rudakubana being attacked in prison are inaccurate. He has not been attacked.' Former Category A prisoner Ricky Killeen, speaking to the MailOnline, believes Rudakubana will be a prime target within the prison system for the rest of his life. He states that even lesser criminals will attempt to harm him, hoping to gain favors and additional drugs from other inmates. Prison violence, according to Killeen, might involve makeshift weapons like 'prison napalm' – a mixture of hot water and sugar – or sharpened objects like toothbrushes. The prison service is actively assessing Rudakubana's situation, closely monitoring him to determine whether to keep him at Belmarsh or transfer him to another facility. Former prison governor Ian Acheson contends that Rudakubana's threat to other inmates is immeasurable and the threat he faces is equally high. He highlights that child killers occupy the lowest rung in the prison hierarchy. Acheson, an expert on prison radicalization, further suggests that due to the nature of Rudakubana's crimes and his alleged interest in biological weapons and Al Qaeda manuals, he might be best situated among Islamist extremists. Steve Gillan, the General Secretary of the Prison Officers Association, acknowledges the high risk posed by Rudakubana but emphasizes that the Prison Service has successfully managed similar cases in the past
