Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has sent a message to fans after their 6-3 Premier League victory over Tottenham on Sunday (December 22). The 33-year-old played the full 90 minutes as Liverpool went four points clear at the top of the Premier League table after Chelsea’s 0-0 draw with Merseyside rivals Everton. Luis Diaz opened the scoring at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the 23rd minute with a header from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s pinpoint cross.
Alexis Mac Allister then doubled Liverpool’s lead 13 minutes later before James Maddison got one back for the home side. Dominik Szoboszlai got Liverpool’s third just before half-time with Arne Slot’s side cutting through Spurs’ defense at will. Mohamed Salah scored a brace shortly after the break before Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke both scored to make it 5-3. Diaz then got his second in the 85th minute and secured an impressive win over Ange Postecoglu’s chaotic Tottenham side. The Dutchman has been key to everything Liverpool have done this season, starting all 22 of his appearances across all competitions, popping up with two goals, and providing one assist in 1980 minutes of action. He is one of three key Reds stars whose futures are currently uncertain as his contract is currently set to expire in the summer, along with that of Salah and Alexander-Arnold. Liverpool will host Ruud van Nistelrooy’s struggling Leicester City at Anfield on Boxing Day (December 26) as they seek to put further distance between themselves and second-placed Chelsea. Slot’s side will then travel to East London to face West Ham on Sunday (December 29) in their last game of the hectic festive period
