In this month’s Motoring column for Vogue, Erin Baker reviews the Aston Martin Vantage while visiting Seville.
Tapas, tinkling fountains in shady courtyards, sweet oranges falling from trees that dot the foothills of the Sierra Morena… how many reasons do you need for a Spanish road trip in May, especially one that starts and finishes in the jewel of Andalusia, Seville? This elegant city is an easy reach for the weekend, with plenty of flights and a short taxi ride from the airport into the city centre, just in time for an aperitif before dinner.
Even a couple of experienced circuit drivers made unplanned excursions into the gravel traps and the track barrier at the circuit in their Vantages while we were there, so this car’s performance is not to be underestimated. But it feels quite cool to trickle it along the roads, which it does happily and easily, knowing you’ve got a monster on a tight leash. We edged it gingerly through the tight streets of Seville, onlookers giving a thumbs up.
