Eight men are on trial accused of sexual offences allegedly committed against two girls - named as Girl A and Girl B. The defendants deny the charges they face.
Two vulnerable girls were treated as ‘sex slaves’ by a group of Asian men in Rochdale , a trial has heard. Eight men deny sexual offences allegedly committed against the two girls, who were teenagers at the time of the claims, which are said to have occurred between 2001 and 2006.
“Both girls were vulnerable. They had deeply troubled home lives and were known to the authorities. Their school attendance was poor, they were often missing from home and their behaviour at times was difficult. Mr Scamardella claimed Mr Zahid, a market stall holder, was ‘at the centre’ of the alleged abuse suffered by the girls. He is the only defendant accused of raping and abusing both of them. He said the police began an investigation years later. The KC told jurors: “It was not until 2010, that an investigation into child sexual exploitation in the Rochdale area began, and as part of that was approached as she had been named as someone who may have been abused.
