Mr Prigozhin, head of Russia’s Wagner Group, was told that he will be deprived of financing if his fighters did not sign contracts with the Russian defence ministry,, citing Andrey Kartapolov, the head of the Russian State Duma’s defence committee.

Mr Kartapolov said Mr Prigozhin had refused to sign the contracts and was subsequently told that his mercenaries would no longer fight in Ukraine, Tass reported. “He was informed that in this case Wagner would not take part in a special military operation,” Mr Kartapolov was quoted as saying. “That is, no funding or material resources will be allocated.”order for private military companies to sign contracts with the Russian defence ministry

. The order requires all “volunteer units” to sign contracts by 1 July, bringing them under the control of Sergei Shoigu, Russia’s defence minister. Following the failed armed rebellion in Russia led by Mr Prigozhin on Saturday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Wagner fighters who decided not to sign contracts with the Russian army could either relocate to Belarus or simply return to their families.
