Wales need to scour the globe for the next Gareth Bale if we are to compete on world stage FifaWorldCup 🟢 NevilleSouthall

It was a difficult night for everyone. I felt sorry for Kieffer Moore up front as he was isolated totally. Meanwhile, Danny Ward, the goalkeeper, might have done better on a couple of the goals – on the Rashford free-kick, for example, he didn’t move his feet quickly enough to get across – but he has to pick himself up, focus on the positives and see what he can do better. The same goes for them all.

Watching the World Cup has underlined for me the importance of something I’ve said in the past – that we should get Wales teams, at junior levels at the very least, playing more matches against sides from other parts of the world to expose them to different styles of play. Unfortunately, with the Nations League on top of Euro and World Cup qualifiers, it’s always European sides we face.

I would also like to see the Welsh FA bring in coaches from other countries to work with the under-age teams. Why not give a coach from overseas two years to work with the U17s or U19s for example? This would increase their exposure to different ideas. We also need to work harder at finding players. It’s not easy and it costs money but can we increase the talent pool by looking at places like the US or even Argentina with a history of Welsh settlers? There’s no new Gareth Bale on the horizon but other countries look far and wide for talents and so must we.
