The man, believed to be aged in his early 30s, died at the scene in Lea Bridge Road, Walthamstow.
Emergency services were called at about 15:00 BST on Saturday to reports of a stabbing in Lea Bridge Road, Walthamstow.
London Ambulance Service and the air ambulance attended but the man, believed to be aged in his early 30s, died at the scene.Det Ch Insp Linda Bradley from the Met Police said: “While we have spoken with a number of witnesses, we need to hear from anyone who saw the suspect running away. "We strongly believe that people in the area may have information which could assist the investigation and we implore you to make contact with us and tell us what you know.”
Acting supt Jack Callaghan added: “We know that this violent attack will have caused a lot of concern in the local community, and we share that concern.
