A power cut affecting large parts of Walton, Liverpool, has plunged streets into darkness. The fault on the high voltage network is expected to last until 10.35pm.

Many Liverpool postcodes are in darkness this evening (January 8) after reports of a 'fault on the high voltage network'. Large parts of Walton have been plunged into darkness due to the power cut , which is expected to last until around 10.35pm tonight. The affected areas include Goodison Road, Church Road West, Walton Village and St Mary's Lane, which have all lost power. One resident told the ECHO how much of the area was in 'complete blackness'.

They said: 'All the streets along Goodison Road are in complete blackness with power cut to the houses and even the street lights are out. Church Road West is also in complete darkness with people stood out on their steps in the cold looking worried.' Another resident added: 'I was sat watching telly when all of a sudden the house plunged into darkness at about 6:15. I thought it might have been a case of the electric tripping, however I looked at the window and realised the whole street was in darkness. 'A few people were out in the road working out what to do. We received notification it might not come back on until near 11pm, but thankfully it came on just before 9.' A third said: 'I was in work when I received a call from my mum saying we had had a power cut. I returned home just after 8pm to discover the whole road and area in complete darkness. I was shocked. The whole area was really eerie. I had never seen it like this before.' Photographs taken by the ECHO show roads in total darkness. A statement on Scottish Power's website says: 'There is a power cut affecting the L4 postcode area of Liverpool. Our next available engineer will attend site to find and fix the fault as quickly and as safely as possible. We expect your electricity supply to be restored by 22:35. The website later added: 'Restoration is taking longer than expected due to a fault on the high voltage network and our team are now aiming to have your power restored by 08/01/2025, 22:35.
