For her 100th birthday on December 20, war veteran Anne Puckridge is lobbying the UK government to change its policy on ' frozen pension s'. Having moved to Canada from Scotland in 2001, she has been receiving the same pension weekly despite her pension increasing in the UK to £169.50. Anne, accompanied by her daughter Diane, traveled 4,400 miles from Calgary to London to lobby MPs and highlight the situation of almost half a million pensioners in similar positions.
Anne is deeply disappointed that Prime Minister Keir Starmer declined to meet her and instead she will see Pensions Minister, Emma Reynolds. Pensioners in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand miss out on the triple-lock guarantee for UK state pensions, which includes increases based on inflation, earnings growth, or 2.5 per cent. Puckridge describes this as a 'cruel pension lottery'
