A 'small number' of Covid cases have been traced back to the ward
NHS Highland confirmed the closure of the facility at Western Isles Hospital in Stornoway on Sunday, August 13. The healthboard confirmed a "small number" of Covid cases had been traced back to the ward.
In order to prevent further spread, the hospital's Medical Ward 1 will be closed to all medical admissions until further notice. Those requiring admission to the High Dependency Unit and paediatric patients will, however, be exempt. An Incident Management Team has been established to ensure all necessary measures are in place to prevent further spread of the virus within the ward. The hospital also said there would be temporary visiting restrictions at Medical Ward 1, with one designated visitor permitted for one visit a day for each patient.
Those visiting the ward must ensure that they book in advance via the ward. Visitors have also been told to wear a mask when visiting and to avoid the ward if you develop symptoms of Covid-19.
