Developers propose a large warehouse complex on farmland near Rothwell, prompting strong opposition from residents concerned about traffic, noise, and the impact on the local community.

Developers have formally submitted an application to construct a massive warehouse complex on farmland adjacent to the A14. North Northamptonshire Council (NNC) will scrutinize plans for the expansive 161-acre (65 hectare) site located on Nunnery Farm, near Rothwell . The proposed development, encompassing five sizable warehouses and three smaller units, would be accessed via Harrington Road.

Prior to submitting the application at the end of last year, the developer conducted a consultation with local residents. A comprehensive survey, garnering over 500 responses, revealed that approximately 75% of participants expressed strong opposition to the proposed project. One individual, in their objection to the Conservative-led NNC, stated, 'Rothwell does not need this development, traffic pollution or noise.'In its planning statement, Harworth Estates asserted that the project could mitigate the 'limited' employment opportunities available in Rothwell. The company emphasized: 'The proposed development will therefore address this demand for a range of skilled employment positions, as well as providing lower skilled and more flexible entry positions.' Public feedback on the application will remain open until February 14th, with a definitive decision on the plans anticipated in April. Meanwhile, No 10 has declared its intention to counter 'cynical' appeals lodged against new nuclear power stations, roads, rail lines, and wind farms. The government has also maintained that the rejection of a housing plan 'should be respected.
