There are serious side effects to look out for if you are taking the pill daily without having been told to
People are being warned against taking a cheap over-the-counter painkiller every day unless they have been advised to by their doctors. Many people are taking aspirin every day in a bid to boost their health but experts say it isn't necessary and can have serious side effects.
Authors of a new study say doctors should be talking to patients about their aspirin use, according to a report published in the Annals of Internal Medicine. In the USA, 25.6 million adults reported regular aspirin use. In the UK, doctors can tell people to take aspirin if they are at risk of cardio-vascular disease, and it is sometimes recommended for pregnant women.
"Your doctor may suggest that you take a daily low dose if you have had a stroke or a heart attack to help stop you having another one. Or, if you're at high risk of heart attack – for example, if you have had heart surgery or if you have chest pain caused by heart disease.
