The Chartered Trading Standards Institute warns Brits about potentially harmful additives in imported American treats, including 'Yellow 6' and EDTA, found in corner shop products.
Brits have been warned that hundreds of thousands of sweets, snacks, and fizzy drinks available in corner shops may contain banned additives associated with behavioral issues and certain cancers. The Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) has issued a warning following their audit, which uncovered 4,000 potentially harmful products valued at £8,500 in Staffordshire alone.
The audit revealed imported American treats with undisclosed or hazardous ingredients, with their popularity increasing due to TikTok videos. Among the additives of concern are 'Yellow 6' (a restricted synthetic dye in the UK), the preservative EDTA (banned in fizzy drinks in the UK due to its links with fertility and colon cancer issues), and Carrageenan, a thickener found in jelly candies
