Golden State's president of basketball ops Bob Myers is stepping away from the team, sources confirm to The Athletic. The two sides had no substantial contract extension talks in the months leading up to Tuesday’s decision.
Kerr has one year left on his contract and all indications remain that he plans to stick around to see it through next season . Green has a player option and could go elsewhere if he prefers, come July. But both sides — Green and the established front office below Myers — appear intent on finding a deal that keeps Draymond in the mix. Thompson extension talks will be tougher without Myers as the trusted negotiator. Curry assuredly will feel a level of unease about Myers walking away.
. In many ways, he’s already been running the day-to-day front office operations. Dunleavy stood in Myers’ place at a recent general manager meeting in Chicago . He attended prospect workouts in Los Angeles this past week. He is at the Warriors’ facility on Tuesday afternoon for a draft workout. Lacob has some time to decide exactly how the front office titles could be rearranged, but it seems clear Dunleavy will step into a more prominent role and Kirk Lacob, his eldest son, will continue to have an expansive voice on both the basketball and business side.
Under them, there are a ton of other voices: Kent Lacob, Shaun Livingston, Nick U’Ren, Ryan Atkinson, Jonnie West, Pabail Sidhu , Onsi Saleh , Larry Harris . Nobody has Myers’ history or influence, but they’ve built out a self-sustaining front office below him.
Myers is particularly close with team star Steph Curry, and also coach Steve Kerr and Draymond Green. Green has a player option for next season and could opt to walk. Kerr’s current contract expires after next season.
