24 hours after the attempted assassination of Former President Donald Trump, Washington residents and visitors in the city said the shock was still very real.

President Biden addresses the nation from the Oval Office in the aftermath of the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump .Republican presidential candidate former President Donald Trump waves from the stage as he is surrounded by U.S. Secret Service agents at a campaign rally, Saturday, July 13, 2024, in Butler, Pa.

"At first I didn't believe it. My son called me, I looked it up and I was shocked. Totally shocked," Curt Doussett who was visiting from Utah said. "It is crazy we are still at this point when someone can do this. How did he get so close? How did he get past security?" Authorities explained that the shooter's DNA and biometrics were being examined during the ongoing investigation. The rally site in Butler, Pennsylvania, is still an active crime scene."Really screwed up how two sides can't get together," Jason Lutz said. "The fact that this happened in 2024 is crazy to be. It is something that shouldn't happen, it is politically motivated and there should be no violence in politics.

"President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act. He is fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility. More details will follow," stated Trump's campaign spokesman, Steven Cheung."Lack of a better word it is horrendous. I can't believe one person feels they can take another person's life it is pretty disgusting," Grant Green said.
