The Pensions Minister will meet with representatives from the WASPI campaign after summer recess.
The Women Against State Pension Inequality campaign has confirmed that the new Pensions Minister Emma Reynolds MP, will meet with them and representatives from the 1950s-women campaign after the parliamentary summer recess. MPs are due back in the House of Commons on September 2.
The confirmation from Ms Reynolds will come as a step forward for millions of 1950s-born women waiting to hear how the UK Government plans to address cross-party calls for compensation following recommendations made by the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman . Last month, several MPs asked Ms Reynolds when she plans to address compensation plans for women affected by changes to their State Pension age.
The PHSO’s Rebecca Hilsenrath said: “Complainants should not have to wait and see whether DWP will take action to rectify its failings… Parliament now needs to act swiftly, and make sure a compensation scheme is established.” “We had reason to believe DWP would not take steps to put things right, so we presented our report to Parliament so it could intervene and find a way to provide appropriate remedy for the women affected.”
