Rishi Sunak told MPs that he 'understands the strong feelings' around the lack of response to the WASPI issue
Millions of WASPI women, who are battling against State Pension injustice, are set to face further delays in their compensation quest as the UK Government needs 'time to conduct a thorough review'.
The MP for Dundee West didn't mince words, saying: "Women born in the 1950s in my constituency and indeed in every constituency across these islands, are still waiting to hear whether the UK Government will listen to its recommendations and deliver compensation. Two senior figures from the WASPI Campaign set out details of a 'two-pronged' compensation plan for 1950s-born women impacted by changes to their State Pension age during an oral evidence session in front of the cross-party Work and Pensions Committee on Tuesday.
Despite the PHSO's recommendation for compensation at Level 4 of its scale between £1,000 and £2,950WASPI believes an additional payment is crucial to fully acknowledge the injustice. WASPI chair Angela Madden commented after the session, expressing approval of the Work and Pensions Select Committee's engagement: "We welcome the serious and thorough questions asked today by members of the Work and Pensions Select Committee and the cross-party support for our approach. It is now for the government to give proper time to Parliament to debate and vote on a fair compensation scheme. The DWP cannot just keep ignoring us.
