Hundreds of MPs have said there should be compensation payouts
The Liberal Democrats have promised they will continue to their efforts to demand compensation for WASPI women. The party, which has consistently backed the campaign, now has 72 MPs on the opposition benches.
"The new Government has inherited a complete mess leftover from the Conservative party. On too many issues, the can was kicked down the road by Conservative ministers. I am proud my party will pick up the mantle of holding this government to account on delivering fairness and dignity for all pensioners."
However, the campaigners believe they should get well above this amount, with one former MP advocating for £10,000 and above for the state pensioners. The chair of the WASPI campaign, Angela Madden, said they have already secured the support of hundreds of MPs in the new Westminster administration.
