The campaigners are still waiting to hear if they will be granted £3,000 compensation and scammers may take advantage of this situation
WASPI women have been put on alert over potential scammers who may offer bogus compensation schemes. The campaigners, representing women born in the 1950s who were hit by the hike in state pension age from 60 to 65 without sufficient notice by the DWP, are awaiting a final decision on whether or not they will get Government compensation.
However, writing for This is Money, ex-pensions minister Steve Webb issued a caution: "As things stand there is no compensation scheme and nothing to 'register' for. If you are asked to put your details into a website it may well be a scam." Recent action has seen WASPI campaigners making their presence felt at both the Labour and Liberal Democrat party conferences, to again call for their long-awaited payouts. Many individual MPs back the cause from across the different parties, with the Liberal Democrats and the SNP taking up as a party policy that they should get compensation.
