The Navy bomb disposal experts seized 'items of interest' at the property in Springburn

Bomb disposal experts who seized "items of interest" at a flat in Glasgow have carried out a controlled explosion in a nearby field. Explosive ordnance disposal officers from the Royal Navy's Charlie Squadron, Northern Diving Group carried out the blasting following the discovery of items at a property on Petershill Road in Springburn.

Danielle Nicol, 37, who works at Carrick Packaging, captured the moment on her phone. She detailed how the item had been transported into the EOD squadron's van before it was transported across to the field in a secure metal box. A police cordon remained in place earlier on Tuesday, with parts of Petershill Road, Red Road, Oatfield Street and Dykemuir Street closed to the public. Housing bodies are supporting local residents who have been displaced.

A Royal Navy spokesperson added: "The Diving and Threat Exploitation Group, Charlie Squadron, are assisting Police Scotland with an investigation at a property in the Petershill Road area of Glasgow.
