The Co Tyrone bonfire has featured controversial toppers in recent years
A controversial bonfire in Co Tyrone was set alight on Wednesday night as it was slammed as "absolutely disgraceful" by a unionist politician.
UUP leader, Doug Beattie, hit out at the controversial placement of the mock police car on the bonfire. He said: "This is absolutely disgraceful. Those responsible undermine their own cries for cultural respect. Truly pathetic." "I utterly condemn the placing of these items on the bonfire, which are used to instil hatred and intimidation, and call on those managing the bonfire to remove them immediately. There is no place in our community for this type of inappropriate behaviour.
Last year, those behind the Moygashel bonfire put a boat on top of it emblazoned with the message "Good Friday Agreement? That ship has sailed" along with a tricolour and picture of former Taoiseach Leo Varadkar.
