Evacuations have been ordered amid a wind-driven fire that sparked near downtown San Carlos in Gila County.
The San Carlos Apache Tribe has declared a state of emergency and is requesting disaster assistance from state and federal governments, as the Watch Fire continues to burn.The wildfire, tribal officials say, started on July 10, spread into the bed of the San Carlos River. As of the late morning hours of July 12, it had burned 1,115 acres, and is 0% contained. According to tribal officials, at least 13 homes have been destroyed, and 75 people are left homeless.
