Golda was stolen from the utility room in a creeper burglary at a family home in Cloughey, Co Down while her owners slept upstairs
Proposals to ensure criminals face up to five years in jail for abducting dogs and cats have moved closer to becoming law after they cleared the Commons in London this week.
Local reports and CCTV footage of a car driving slowly in the neighbourhood before Golda was taken were shared with the PSNI as her family feared they may have been watched in the hours leading up to the dognapping. Conservative MP Anna Firth , the Bill’s sponsor, told the Commons: “We are showing by our actions that cats and dogs are not just items, and that abducting them causes real distress to families and to individuals.
The Christchurch MP said: “If you don’t have your cat or dog microchipped, then you shouldn’t be able to expect the law to come to rush to your assistance in the event of your cat or dog being abducted.
