Susan Davey, South West Water's chief executive, said she was 'so sorry this has happened' after 17,000 homes in Brixham, Devon, were told to boil their drinking water.
The boss of South West Water has issued a grovelling apology after contaminated water lead to dozens of customers falling ill with diarrhoea and vomiting.
She said: 'You expect a clean, safe supply of water. It is not a lot to ask for but for those in the Brixham area we haven't been able to deliver that and for that I am sorry.' In a video posted to X, formerly Twitter , Ms Davey apologised directly to those affected by the infected water tank. She said: 'You expect a clean, safe supply of water. It is not a lot to ask for but for those in the Brixham area we haven't been able to deliver that and for that I am sorry'
'And we're making good progress. Bottled water has been delivered to customers in homes, businesses and schools.' The CEO, who took home a paycheque of over half a million last year, tried to reassure customers that it is 'thankfully very rare' for drinking water to become contaminated with bacteria which can be caught through faeces
South West Water believes the parasite might have entered water supply through a damaged pipe which runs through a field containing animal waste.
