Waterloo Road returns with big changes in place including a new headteacher and star Rachel Leskovac confesses she was disappointed when actress Angela Griffin left
Big changes have swept through the corridors of Waterloo Road High School, which now boasts academy status and a brand new building. With Kim Campbell's exit, a new head rules the roost. Rachel Leskovac, known for her role on Coronation Street , is back as English teacher Coral Walker and couldn't be more thrilled.
Rachel, 48, shares her disappointment about Angela's departure: "I was gutted on a personal level that Kim has left because I love working with Angela so much," she admits. "Angela brings a certain energy, and she has a knowledge of the show, too. She's the heart of the series, but luckily Angela is still here directing some episodes.
Fans of the show are also set to see more development in Coral's love life as Rachel lets slip that her character and Neil Guthrie, played by Neil Fitzmaurice, are finding their way back to each other despite previous tension. "I was absolutely mortified when I read that Coral would be involved in Chlo's demise," confesses Rachel. "And I did think that would be me gone. With the way long-running shows are, there's always a constant flux of new characters. It seemed quite clear to me where they were going to take her."
