Should shoppers leave yellow sticker food to those who need it the most? Join the conversation
Most supermarkets have schemes in place to give out food nearing its sell-by date at a discounted price - but whether this should be up for grabs or reserved for those who need it most, is a controversial topic.
As the cost of living crisis soars and more people seek to save a few pound, money saving expert Martin Lewis last month asked his audience if they thought people should leave those items on the shelf if they could afford to pay for them at full price. The debate sparked hugely differing responses. One LancsLive reader said the issue was people taking everything.
Another reader said the discounted food should be for anyone who wants it. They said: "Far too much already goes into skips and landfill, so as long as someone uses it that has to be good!"
