Truffle powder, lemon gel, parsley oil and micro herbs - not what you'd expect to find in a Thwaites pub
I'm no food snob. And if anything, the likes of foam, jus and reductions put me off rather than turn me on.
From the outside the White Bull looks like an upmarket pub and the inside didn't disappoint either. Seemingly styling itself on the theme often seen in Ribble Valley gastropubs the furnishings were smart and, although this will become a repetitive concept, not what you'd expect from a Thwaites pub. I chose two starters thinking my daughter would share them. We picked the sharing starter of warm focaccia bread, curried hummus, olives, sun blushed tomatoes and balsamic oil and the duck liver parfait served with whipped truffle butter, truffle powder, toasted brioche and balsamic chutney .
Ok so it wasn't perfect. The duck was perhaps slightly over-cooked and, as an avid Gordon Ramsay fan, I couldn't quite see how all the elements worked together but there was no way I was going to complain. It was nothing short of spectacular and I only wish I'd had more room in my stomach to finish the lot.
