The tasting room promises to offer visitors an 'unforgettable' experience
Five years ago, Sam MacDonald had a clear dream and a bold vision - to open "the best whiskey bar in Ireland".
“We are also only metres away from the site of the old Avoniel distillery, one of Ireland’s most significant producers, which closed down almost 100 years ago. I became friends with Phil Patterson and it was as if all the answers to my long search pointed in this direction.” 'Malt and Melody' takes place every Thursday from 7.30pm. Visitors can expect to taste high-quality drams from some of the greatest bottlers in the world, in what Sam promises to be an “unforgettable” night. Walk-ins are welcome, but private bookings are encouraged.
Setting is important, so the bar has been designed in a way that it amplifies the experience of drinking whiskey right down to the minutiae. From the marble surface to drink off, the specially designed glassware or even the water which is sourced exclusively from Slemish mountain in Co Antrim, everything here is by design, rather than by accident.
Single drams vary in price, while a one-hour tasting starts at £30pp. Our party was the size of four, perfect to create an atmosphere while soaking up Sam’s unrivalled knowledge of the whiskey industry. To keep that personal touch, tastings can only be done with a maximum of seven people.
