Sefton Park often hosts major events but regeneration reporter Dan Haygarth thinks our other excellent green spaces need their moment in the spotlight too
Few cities are blessed with the wealth of green space that Liverpool can boast. Pretty much every corner of this city and the wider region has a fantastic park to its name.
Sefton Park was once again at the centre of attention last week. The park came alive as the ‘In the Park’ series of gigs saw thousands flock to L17 to see headline performances from Catfish and the Bottlemen, Jamie Webster and Cream Classical across three nights from July 11 to 13. It is no real surprise that Sefton Park hosts a lot of events throughout the year such as Africa Oye in June. It is a beautiful park which many people across the city would count as their favourite. It's also very well situated for most of South Liverpool and is easy to travel to - with St Michaels Merseyrail station nearby.
In the north of the city, Stanley Park would be a prime spot for live music or entertainment. It boasts more than 100 acres of space and should be able to put on a concert. Similarly, Croxteth Park is massive and could be used in the same way. It would be nice to see those areas given the footfall that Aigburth enjoys during Africa Oye and the In the Park gigs this month.
