The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has said they are aware a number of Australians were in the region when the earthquakes struck, but no deaths have been officially confirmed.

Speaking to 2GB’s Ben Fordham on Wednesday morning, World Vision Australia chief executive Daniel Wordsworth said a number of teams from the organisation were on the ground across both Turkey and Syria assisting in rescue efforts.

“What we’re doing is we’re providing emergency shelter, blankets, fuel, trying to get medical facilities back up,” he said.“It’s winter over there. Right now, it’s about minus 5 degrees and the snow is already blanketing these sorts of destroyed buildings, and so we’re trying to get people into shelters and keep them warm.”
