The veteran actor has delivered an emotional acceptance speech after winning her first Academy Award as Everything Everywhere All At Once began an early sweep.

Airing on Monday morning in Australia, Curtis was handed her statue in the first hour of the three-hour long Oscars telecast.

Fellow nominee Angela Bassett, who was the first actor ever nominated for a role in a Marvel movie, was considered a favourite by some insiders after winning the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress in January. As Curtis noted in her speech, she’s also the first member of her family to win an Oscar as both of her late parents received nominations in their lifetime but did not ultimately win.
