The stirring win over the Sydney Swans is a good step for the Tigers in their bid to keep Baker, who is in the sights of both the Dockers and Eagles in his home state.
First-year Richmond coach Adem Yze declared after his first win for the Tigers that they will give star vice-captain Liam Baker “the world” if he wants to stick around.
“While he’s here, we just want him to play free and enjoy his footy, and make that decision when the time comes.“That’s my only thing I’ve been talking to him about – is I just want his effort to be high and just enjoy walking in the footy club, and we love him. He knows that. He’ll make that decision. The last couple of weeks, he’s played with some freedom, which is nice, so hopefully, he can keep that going.
Yze revealed afterwards that the Tigers’ five-goal-to-one third quarter coincided with their highest pressure rating for the season.“ not about me. For our players, I look at our last three weeks, the effort that our players have put in without getting a reward,” he said. “We weren’t happy with the way that we pressured last week – we were just a step off. It’s not a Richmond type of game if we’re only making 30 tackles, so ... they recognised that during the week, and we trained it.”
