We made King Charles' official Coronation quiche for just £4 - but came across one big problem
We all love a good knees-up and with an extra bank holiday there's no excuse not to celebrate the upcoming coronation of King Charles.
I recently treated myself to a Ninja food processor which I've been using to make shortcrust pastry and have been experimenting with various quiche recipes so when King Charles revealed his coronation dish I was keen to try it for myself. But it wasn't without its issues, as I'll now explain.King Charles III's recipe only includes a handful of ingredients but the supermarkets need to get on the ball if they're hoping families will replicate the royal dish.
Given that the king's quiche aims to celebrate British produce it was disappointing that I had to substitute broad beans for their Japanese counterpart. Saying that, it was easy enough to find the remaining ingredients of cheddar, double cream and spinach as well as kitchen staples of eggs , butter, milk and salt and pepper.
Despite my newly-found obsession with making my own quiches I rarely manage to make one where the filling doesn't spill out of my somewhat rustic pastry base but with the coronation quiche it didn't seem to matter too much. I'm a big fan of spinach and King Charles III's quiche is relatively cheap to make - around £4 by my reckoning.
