Maybe it's just rose-tinted glasses, but the years we did most of our drinking in Manchester's pubs are likely to be the ones we think were the best.

"Non-alcoholic spirits. We've put a lot of that on because people are going on health kicks, they're into fitness and gyms - that sort of thing," Debbie adds. "That generation of people who used to drink in the pubs during the days are staying at home or passing way. They're not passing it down to younger generation as they're into bars, they're into eateries. That's what's happening with the pubs basically. We're trying to fight to stay alive."
This prompted 'Downsize' to disagree with the reason 'Urangin' gave for the disappearance of the traditional pub, but acknowledged that the loss of one famous Manchester pub in particular was a "scandal". Also on the M.E.N. website, 'Cottonboy' shared some lovely memories after seeing a photo of a fondly remembered pub.
