Diaz joined Real Madrid a matter of weeks after the Leicester contest and Garcia followed him to Spain in 2021 when he joined Barcelona. Nonetheless, for a pair of City prospects, the occasion and rise to the top of European football is proof that City have long spotted top talents. As Pep Guardiola said to then Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman when Garcia departed: "Eric is an outstanding signing. First of all because he is a gem of a guy, so clever. But he is also really hungry to learn more and more and absorbs everything. You will see how, some years on, he will become a club captain at Barcelona.
