We swapped our old clothes for free beer - this is why

Camden Town Brewery has been giving out free beers at the Trafford Centre in exchange for old clothes. Beer fans were able to get themselves a can of the brewery's new IPA and all they had to do was hand over a bag of unwanted clothing.

The event on Thursday saw the brewer team up with leading waste charity TRAID to try and get more people shopping sustainably this winter. They say each year in the UK, more than 300,000 tonnes of clothing end up in landfill - and 40 per cent of that is in a reusable condition. TRAID’s research has also found that there are 1.6 billion pieces of unworn clothing in UK wardrobes. Speaking about the initiative, Jose Baladron, TRAID’s recycling development manager, said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Camden Town Brewery to keep clothes in use for longer.

Fred Nesbitt, head of marketing at Camden Town Brewery, said: “We are so excited to be working with TRAID again for the Camden Chilly TRAID Off. "There’s nothing we love more than good beer for a good cause, and we are encouraging Brits to dig deep into the back of their wardrobe this winter, to come down and donate any unwanted coats or jackets in exchange for our freshest new IPA.
