We tried own brand Shreddies from Asda, Lidl, Sainsburys, Aldi and Morrisons and one badly let us down

What better way to cut back on monthly costs by opting for a cereal the whole family can have. It's not easy finding cheaper alternatives to branded items, especially when the big names tend to get it so right.

I wouldn't recommend you do that with this brand unless you enjoy chomping on gritty cardboard. However, the tables turned when the milk was poured- now I know that should be a given, but dry cereal is also edible so surely it should taste just as good right? The levels of sweetness were great, perfectly sugary without being over the top but don't get me started on the awful film that was left on the roof of mouth after eating this. The aftertaste lingered far too long and again, I needed extra milk to wash away that weird coating - hence the lower score. This box should come with a choking hazard since I did almost choke on a single spoonful.

Costing over a pound, I expected more but instead got dull, boring, not very sweet tasting cereal. The texture wasn't great either but I would have been able to overlook that more if there had there been more flavour to this bowl of cereal. I'm aware that as a wholegrain option, it most likely had better nutritional values, but the fact remains there are much better alternatives to this cereal than the Sainsbury's option.
