With September's Back To School now looming, we compared budget uniforms from the biggest supermarkets to find out which is really the best value for money

With the September Back To School rush now looming, many parents will be looking to buy last-minute uniform items. There are now plenty of options available, with supermarket giants like ASDA, Tesco , Sainsbury's and Marks and Spencer having secured themselves as easy 'go-to' brands for those purchasing a uniform on a budget.

Our reviewer says: "While I am delighted with the narrower dimensions of the slim fit range, only time will tell whether they will withstand endless football tackles on the concrete playground or the constant need for washing that only teenage boys seem to create. The crease resistant skirt is a nice fit and hangs just above the knee. It’s also weatherproof, crease and stain resistant.Super soft material that’s 85% cotton, 15% polyester. It features ‘stay new’ technology which prevents the material from bobbling and keeps colours vibrant, wash after wash. It has an elasticated waist, drawstring, pockets and elastic round the ankle.

The lightweight cotton construction ensures that they keep a streamlined look underneath blazers and I find that they are breathable too, helping to prevent sweaty kids on warmer days. These trousers might just be robust enough, as well as basically grow-proof, to last a full year. Our reviewer says: "I only spent £22.50 and managed to pick up two pairs of trousers, two pairs of 3/4 shirts and two blue sweatshirts. This for me was a great pick considering I have spent a little more in the past with other retailers. Overall, Asda would be my go to for sweatshirts, PE bits and all other accessories including bags. They have brilliant character logo bags and trendy themed bags for kids this year.

There are two cute bows to the front of the waist which lead down into a pleat on either side. If you’re looking for a dress that doesn’t require much ironing, sadly this one’s not for you as it creases quite a bit. That said, it’s a comfy fit and hangs nicely at the perfect length.Review: Made of strong durable material, this zip front pleated dress is one that will see you through until next year. It features a zip front from waist up making it easy to slip on and take off.

My daughter’s feet are a size 5.5 so I sized up and they’re a little too big. A thick pair of socks and a solid lace up might do the trick. Give six months and they’ll be the perfect fit.If you're shopping for someone tall but with a narrow waist then these might be the Holy Grail of school trousers, especially at this price.

They have a cushioned, anti-odour in-sole that our tester particularly liked, paired with a 150-day guarantee which proved a hit with me. My children’s school shoes never seem to last whether we buy expensive brand names or supermarket options. These started life well but the guarantee makes me hopeful they might stay the distance and, if they don’t, at least I don’t have a pricey bill to replace them as I can get my money back.

Considerably cheaper than big-name options from the likes of Clarks, the shoes are sturdy, the patent is shiny and non-scuff and with 150-day money back guarantee there’s plenty of good reasons to try a pair.
